Welcome to the 2017 Canowindra Baroque Music Festival!

Baroquefest 2017 will be held from Friday evening 13th October until Sunday evening 15th October in Canowindra, NSW. This year's festival will feature artists such as The Song Company, Rachael Beesley (Baroque violinist), the Limestone Consort and The Academy Singers.

BaroqueFest Opening

5:00pm, Montrose House

Come and share a drink with us as the official opening of the festival is combined with CanowindraArt's annual exhibition.

Hear a short violin performance my the festival's musical director Andrew Baker, and meet the festival's patron, ABC classic FM presenter Marian Arnold.

The Song Company - In the Midst of Life

7:30pm, All Saints Canowindra

As we celebrate the anniversary of the 450th birthday of Claudio Monteverdi with three of his final vocal masterpieces, we also remember the transience of life in lamentation and supplication from 16th / 17th Century English musical maestri William Purcell and Robert White.

Academy Singers: Choral Music – Ancient and Modern

2:30pm, All Saints Canowindra

Based in the Blue Mountains NSW, Academy Singers perform regular concerts throughout NSW. They perform acapella, as well as collaborating with other ensembles such as Penrith Symphony Orchestra. They are directed by renowned Australian composer and conductor Paul Terracini.

Rachael Beesley: Inspirations of J.S Bach

7:30pm, Saturday 14th October, All Saints Canowindra

Brilliant, pleasing, expressive and constantly fresh, Bach’s mastery of styles and genres all with a variety of affects and passions come to life in his solo repertoire for violin. Performing a selection of Bach's solo sonatas and partitas, the program will be interspersed with solo works by Australian composers for the violin including Charles Macinnes's Quiet Girl Suite and Tim Dargaville's Invisible Dances.

Be serenaded by the El Choclo String Quartet as you enjoy the stunning coffee and morning tea available at Canowindra's Trading Post.

The Limestone Consort: Elegant Conversation

12:00pm (concert from 1pm), Wallington Winery
Concert and Lunch

This concert will explore the trio sonata, from two different perspectives. The concert will show the difference in style between the early trio sonata pre-Bach and the later ‘high Baroque’ style of Handel.  Showcasing trio sonatas from different countries will also allow the audience to compare and contrast national styles of the form. The concert will include trio sonatas by Stradella, Rosenmuller, Dornel and Handel.

The Muffat Collective: Baroque Sonata

5pm, Rosnay Organic Wines
Concert and Dinner

This concert will explore the 18th Century sonatas composed for Violin and Harpsichord. There is a vast repertoire for this instrumental combination from this period, as both instruments were the most popular and played across most social classes. Works will be performed by composers such as Vivaldi, Corelli, Geminiani, Bach, Biber and Marais.
